Our History

While Classic Foods International officially opened its doors in July 2013, owner John (JD) Zeiler has been in the pastry industry for nearly 20 years. In 1996, after graduating from Auburn University with a degree in public relations/communications, he began his career with Classic Gourmet, Incorporated. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Classic Gourmet was the premier distributor in Atlanta as well as the entire Southeast. In that time, JD established strong relations in the industry which continue today. Eventually Classic Gourmet was acquired by another corporation and all of the Classic Gourmet representatives were scattered to other companies. Because of the strength of the experience with this company, most of the former Classic Gourmet representatives are still in the food industry today. 

JD furthered his career in the industry working with a national food distributor as a sales rep in Atlanta continuing to nurture and establish those relationships that had begun earlier. After a stint with them, he was ready to bring back the specialty service with which he began his career. As many companies are striving for the broad-line status, Classic Foods wants to keep the tradition of making sure customers receive personal attention.

The small local business for the better of the industry was and is the idea for which Classic Foods stands. Classic Foods International is still mainly a pastry distributor, but we can take care of the chef’s savory needs as well. This flexibility and willingness to provide options for each kitchen’s individual needs is what makes Classic Foods unique. Classic Foods is truly where Quality and Service meet.
